Secondary: Tuesday Week 6, Term 1

The Season of Lent

We are now around the halfway mark through the season of Lent.

Lent is really about denying yourself of something that you enjoy in order to be reminded that it's God that you depend on in life.

Lent mirrors the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness. He voluntarily removed himself from the pleasure of life and company of people so that he could be close to God, hear from Him, and prepare Himself for what was to come - his death by crucifixion and then resurrection three days later.

Prayer for Lent

We pray the sign of the cross.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Lord, Teach me a new freedom.

Freedom to reject comparison and to embrace uniqueness.

Freedom to cut ties with greed and to feast on love.

Freedom to abstain from over indulgence and feast on self-control.

Freedom to leave behind selfish thoughts and to focus on the needs of others.

Freedom to fend off insecurity and to embrace grace.

Lord, at this time of Lent, thank you for the freedom you bring.

Amen.
