World Humanitarian Day

World Humanitarian Day is a United Nations holiday observed every year on August 19. It is a day to honour humanitarian personnel and recognize their efforts as aid workers during humanitarian world crises.

It is also a day to remember those who lost their lives in humanitarian missions. This day’s purpose is to raise awareness about the crucial humanitarian work that is happening around the world, and how important it is that all countries come together to assist those in need during harder times.

Let us pray …

God of unity, we ask you to bless the humanitarians who serve others in war zones, among inadequate living conditions, under governments unaware of destructive infrastructures, and even in their own communities. Bring aid to every corner of the earth so that all your children may find themselves able to live full lives; lives that walk with each other as sisters and brothers united with a common humanity. We ask all these things in your name. Amen.
